Sufiyo, born Tamara Stevers in Adelaide in 1973, has a curiosity and passion for life and creation in its every form. With a fascination and deep respect for nature, its patterns and purity of colour, her inspiration to create is born. Sufiyo's ongoing quest to connect with the spiritual essence of the Self and the World has her newly exploring what it is to be…
In 1998 Sufiyo graduated from the University of South Australia with a Bachelor of Education - Secondary Art/Design. She has since enjoyed working with children throughout High Schools, Childcare Centres and various other organisations including programs for the disadvantaged. Another of Sufiyo's passions is connecting with community. Always one for taking on a challenge, in 2004 she cycled 500km through Sri Lanka after fundraising $7000 (ms.grudknows.com) for the Multiple Sclerosis Society of which she has been a member since 1990.
Her travels include journeys through Israel (2000), Sri Lanka (2004) and South India (2005), as well as many cultural and spiritual paths, including an exploration into her Jewish heritage, Mata Amritanandamayi (Amma), Sai Baba, Buddhism, and finding resonance with Osho, when she was given the name Sufiyo.
The mandala represents the world in its divine form and has been used by many different cultures to cultivate power or healing energy, to protect, to inspire, and to call upon the divine. According to Tibetan Buddhist tradition, it also represents a path or a way by which the minds of people can be transformed from an ordinary mind into an enlightened mind.
The love and time invested in this collection of mandalas is a playful exploration of Creation's Prana, or Chi, the Universal Life Force. This unseen energy exists everywhere in the universe in great quantities and manifests in infinite forms…
